About

Brand Story

After a chance meeting with and organic worm farmer in the late 90’s had Richard Kennard, the founder and CEO of Sussex Manures onto a new career path to provide an environmentally friendly solution to the management of equine waste and how to recycle the material to provide a regenerative product for farmers and growers across the southeast of England. Mick Russel & George Derrick who worked as board members alongside Richard were keen growers and allotment holders. With their growing knowledge and production experience they formulated a recipe and got growing. In January 2009, due to the growth in demand from the domestic market “PUCKAMUCK” was established, and prides itself on supplying a safe and consistent manure for all soil types.

The Logo

Our product logo resembles the London underground because it symbolizes connectivity and movement, much like our product Puckamuck aims to connect and enhance the ecosystem underground in the soil. The circular design of the logo represents nature’s cycle of life in the soil, where nutrients are continuously transported to plants and organisms work together to create a thriving environment. By focusing on enriching the soil, Puckamuck helps foster a diverse community of microorganisms, ultimately leading to healthier gardens and ecosystems above ground. This logo not only highlights our commitments to improving the environment but also emphasizes the importance of strong foundations for sustainable growth.

The Product

Puckamuck is a natural, peat-free soil conditioner or mulch which is made up of horse manure and shavings meaning it is extremely rich in organic matter. Puckamuck provides the perfect habitat for organisms and healthy bacteria to rebuild the soil’s ecosystem for thriving plants and vegetables. Additional to its base being full of natural resources, Puckamuck also greatly promotes worms and has shown a large increase in gardens that have used Puckamuck religiously.

How We Operate

The muck is collected from small scale stable yards to competition yards across 4 counties in the southeast of England. Our trained tractor drivers will first examine the manure to assess its suitability for Puckamuck, ensuring it is free from straw and meets our high-quality standards. Any surplus material is put back to the land. Once approved, the manure undergoes a thorough processing phase where it is aged, shredded and sterilized by heat treating over 60 degrees Celsius over the course of 1-2 years before being brought into our dispatch yard, where it is prepared for sale and use as Puckamuck.
